The 365 Books Project
The project began as an attempt to read 183 books in 2006, or a book every two days, rounded down. I then decided to read another 182 books in 2007, making it 365 books in total. Unfortunately, I fell into a bottomless crackpipe and only made it to another 100.
183 books in 2006 + 100 books in 2007 expands to 120 novels, 45 short story collections, 33 comics, 28 books of general non-fiction, 17 essay collections, 17 journals, 6 picture books, 5 art books, 3 magazines, 3 books of poetry, 2 books of plays, 2 unclassifiable anthologies, 1 unpublished manuscript, and 1 screenplay.
The authors I read most are William T. Vollmann (10), Javier Marias (7), Eddie Campbell (6), and Katsuhiro Otomo (6). Otomo is famously quick. Also Michael Chabon, Robert Coover, Umberto Eco, Rick Moody, George Saunders, David Sedaris, Ali Smith, and David Foster Wallace at 4 each.
The only books I got more than 100 pages into and abandoned because of basic shitness were Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon, We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, and Coming Soon...! by John Barth. I liked almost everything I finished; loved most of it, but there is a + next to stuff I loved particularly and personally.
